Wedding Checklists: What Documents Do You Need?

The excitement of the proposal your beloved made and your acceptance to become engaged and eventually married should be enjoyed. You will want to bask in the ambiance of this period of time before you walk down the aisle and say your “I do”s to each other and profess your love for one another. Long before your special day, there is much to do, and you will want to avoid forgetting about all the important details.
To help keep you on track, the best thing to do is make different wedding checklists of items that need to be taken care of ahead of time. While it can be tempting to just make one big list of everything, you could potentially overlook some of the smaller, yet important items you need to complete. It is much better to make smaller lists and delegate responsibilities whenever possible.
Wedding Checklists
You will need to gather important documents to obtain your marriage license and will need a copy of your birth certificate and a valid photo ID, like your driver license. If you intend to change your name, you will also need to fill out that form and submit it along with the other items.
  1. Order a copy of your birth certificate online. The fastest way to get a birth certificate is to do so online, as you can skip the long lines and time needed to get a copy from your local municipality office.
  2. Obtain the form needed to request a marriage license. You might be able to get this form online, too, and save some time. Otherwise, you will need to get it from your local courthouse.
  3. Obtain the form needed to change your name. Some municipalities do post this form online, or else, like the marriage license application, it could require a trip to your local courthouse or municipality office.
Once you have all of these items completed and taken care of, remember to store them in a safe place. On the day of your wedding, the marriage license has to be signed and then returned to be officially registered.

To help get you started on making your checklists, break tasks down onto specific lists and remember these important items:
  1. Select a Date
  2. Choose a Venue
  3. Complete Gift Registries
  4. Hire a Wedding Planner
  5. Pick a Theme
  6. Choose a Wedding Dress
  7. Select Bridesmaids and Groomsman
  8. Hire a Wedding Photographer
  9. Hire a Wedding Caterer
  10. Hire a Wedding Entertainer/DJ
  11. Choose a Wedding Cake
  12. Mail Invitations and Request an RSVP
For instance, you could have a single list of all the places you want to visit to register for gifts, another list for tasks regarding the invitations, and so on.

If you, for some reason, put off getting your birth certificate until the last minute, you can still get one quickly from Fast Birth Certificates with our expedited processing option. Order yours today online or call us at (415) 528-2585.
