How Do I Get a Birth Certificate If I’ve Never Had One Before?

For most people, a birth certificate is something they take for granted. They don’t have to think about how to get a new birth certificate, because they’ve had one all along. Of course, if that is not the case in your life, you may have a number of questions. What is a birth certificate? Why is it important to have one? Where can I get one?

Unfortunately, the questions may outnumber the answers at this point. With this blog post, we’d like to show you that this is not an issue which needs to haunt you for the rest of your life. By taking the steps necessary to receive a birth certificate, you can put this matter behind you and move forward confidently.
The Basics

As the name would indicate, a birth certificate is a record which documents the birth of a person. The value of a birth certificate is far-reaching, including providing an individual with a legal identity, enabling them to be enrolled in school, making it possible to obtain a passport, and much more. Simply put, life is going to be rather limited if you do not possess a valid birth certificate which confirms your identity and age.

How Does This Happen?

It might seem like the receipt of a birth certificate is automatic when a child is born, but that is not necessarily the case. The lack of a birth certificate is relatively common in certain situations, such as when a child is born at home, or born in a certain community (such as an Amish community). If the proper paperwork is not completed and submitted, the child may continue to grow without ever receiving this important document. Of course, it won’t be until later on in life that the individual begins to realize how difficult it is to work through a number of different situations without a birth certificate.

Taking Action

If you find yourself in the position of being an adult without a birth certificate, there are steps you can take to rectify the problem. Most importantly, you are going to need to be in possession of some important details regarding your birth. In most cases, this is not going to be a problem. You’ll need to know your date of birth, your gender at birth, and your full name. Also, the names of your parents are likely to be required, and there may be other identity-related questions to answer before you can officially be issued a document. Once you have gathered all your documentation, you’ll want to contact the vital records office in the state you were born to get started.

This is the kind of project which is easy to put off, but don’t make that mistake. If you have never possessed an official birth certificate, get started right away on completing the steps necessary to receive one. Being born without a birth certificate is more common than you might think, and it doesn’t need to stand in your way any longer.

While FastBirthCertificates.com can’t register you for a birth certificate for the first time, we can point you in the direction of your state’s vital records office. And if you ever need to get an official copy of your new birth certificate, you can always quickly and conveniently order it online through us.

I’m in the same boat Ms. Tharrett, my father in law is 81 and was delivered by a midwalife in 1937. There is no record of his birth and we have tried for years to get him a birth certificate. They keep saying “sorry we don’t know what to tell you”. How can No one know how to remedy this problem. Funny how they found a way to get him a social security #. Gosh forbid he not pay in to the government! If anyone has help for us I would be so grateful. 850-293-8183

Get a copy of the census showing his name, date of birth and parents. I know this works because I'm 61, never had a birth certificate and went to school, got drivers license, ss card and married. Check every ten years from time of birth, my was when I was 3

I am 57 years old, college graduate, married, divorced, owned two businesses and living in California. I was born in Brooklyn NY according to a Baptism Certificate. However the certificate is no longer valid for updating important records. I need to update my passport and driver's license to the new ID DMV requirements. I submitted a request for a search of my BC, but the Vital Records in NY can not locate one. I was born at home and my parents at the time did not follow through with the birth certificate paperwork. Can anyone provide some insight. What is the first step in getting it resolved? Thank you

Contact the Vital Records in state in which you were born and be guided by the instructions. Also, I believe you can use a passport to obtain the new Real ID Driver's License.

Get a passport - and swear to an affidavit of birth - that will start things going forward.

Didn't find out until I was in my mid fifties that my parents were not my biological parents. To my dismay when I tried to obtain a birth certificate I was informed that there was no record of my birth. I later discovered that the name I have used all my life is not the name I was born with and since I cannot prove that NY will not issue me a copy of that birth certificate. I am unable to obtain a passport and I will not be able to obtain a digital ID or driver's license that will be required October 2020.

I work for a Law Firm in Texas and during this career I have seen some interesting situations such as these.
However most of the people that are dealing with these issues are people that have been incarcerated for a number of years especially the elderly.
See into the Offender Reintegration Process (back into society), in your state. It may or may not work due to every state having a different processing system. There is no standard way to accomplish this, hence the difficulty in doing it.
Although there are people that have been successful but, instead of going on and not looking back they should at the least be giving a hand up to the rest by simply explaining what they've done.
Good Luck and Blessing towards your efforts and future.

SEE:
Sovereign citizen.
This is where you are all at. It is a trap the government has designed. Not that you asked to be sovereign or intentionally acquired the position, maybe some did. It's I am sure not what you consider yourselves but, it is where you are stuck.
They have set the system up for them to only gain on there end and more or less punish on your end. If you or your parent's did not follow within the lines of there rules to process you then you are stuck. They will only recognize you enough to take from you, ie. Taxes, Payments, Registration (limited), vital "head count" etc...
UNLESS you find a way out of the Sovereign rabbit hole.
Some people actually prefer that kind of life and try to go off grid in striving to do so only to find more problems than what it's worth.
There are even Hollywood movies portraying the problem such as THE TERMINAL with Tom Hanks.
It's funny how the anti government knuckle heads will tell you all about how to do it but can't tell you how to gain it back.
That's because it's difficult to in the name of U.S. Security for the Homeland.

If there is any records of your parents you may get relief/help through that avenue and if still alive get a DNA sample from them and yourself for future proof. You must be willing to try every route possible. Look into gaining citizenship through the Embassy or other way. Since there is no law explaining or pertains to this issue you must create your own path.
EXAMPLE: An attorney is more or less there to represent you in front of the COURTS or to file the proper paperwork if you do not know what to do.
HOWEVER, in the U.S. one can file there own legal work with the Courts and can also represent themselves.
That said, just like a Law Firm we sometimes have to figure out our own way and file that with the courts. This is how new laws that are formed through the courts come about.
If you have the patients and driven motivation then go for it. Create your own case and blaze your own path. make the Courts and Government listen to your pleadings. Make it possible for yourself and those that you love.
Hypothetically speaking: a divorce will general start you out as low as $2,000 to $5,000 and can go as high as $30,000 and much much more depending on the circumstances.
When you file your own divorce it will usually cost you simply the filing fees unless proven indigent or on disability. Filing fees usually run between $250 to $500 and go as high as $900, that's it.
See the difference ?
You can CREATE your own case. Forms online are only STANDARD forms, as long as they have within it the elements that they must hold within it your arguments are limitless.
It's how we as the people win rights for ourselves.
So be a FREEDOM fighter for you and your's.

To Tina Evans: We are in the same boat. I've spoken to several attorneys and got one to help me, but the shutdown has delayed everything. I would love to talk to you about my findings and maybe we can work together to solve our problem. Its' not easy and its' going to take a lot of footwork on your part before an attorney takes charge of it. Let's talk.

How does one go about getting their birth certificate if they don't actually know in which state they were born? Many details of my spouse's birth have always been kept secret and we don't know how to get the information now (the relatives who had this information are long deceased).

My situation is completely different and difficult, I’ve never had as much as a social security card or an ID, and I’m 27 years old. How do I go about getting what I need to go to school and get a job? Any information would help. Thank you.

I had my daughter on 11/03/13 she was born 15 weeks premature, and the hospital never came around to get the paperwork for her birth certificate. Although I have 3 other children and know the procedure on how the hospital does this. Because I handed in the paperwork late to the hospital I never got a proper birth certificate in the mail. It just has no name as her first name and my last name as her last. I tried to correct that at the office of vital records when she was 11 months old but crossed something out so it once again was left blank. Since then she has started school and we have medical coverage, but her medical card and school records have 2 different last names, her fathers is on her medical card and medical records from her doctor mine is on her school records. No one seems to point me in the right direction to fix this so I'm stuck on what to do now. My baby needs her identity. But I don't know where to turn for this help. The office of vital records is of no help either. I'm stumped
